Additional information
Anocha Suwichakornpong - Thaïlande - 2016 - thaï avec sous-titres anglais / Thai with English subtitles

Suwichakornpong's second feature deals with one of the many traumatic moments from the last half-century of Thailand's history: the Thammasat University massacre of 1976, where government forces and right-wing paramilitaries attacked students protesting the return of former dictator Thanom Kittikachorn. Set in the present day, the film focuses on Ann (Visra Vichit-Vadakan), a young filmmaker who is attempting to write a script about the massacre with the aid of Taew (Rassami Paoluengtong), a former leader of the student movement. As Ann struggles with “the impossibility of making a historical film in a place where there is no history” (as Suwichakornpong puts it), the film itself begins to mirror her plight, fracturing into a kaleidoscope of different characters and realities, a pixellated palimpsest of dream states that has earned apt comparisons to the work of Godard and Lynch.
