Sixteen years before Parasite, South Korean director Bong Joon-ho was making his first major film, a haunting and sulphurous thriller based on the real-life case of the first serial murders in Korean history. Combining horror and dark humour, Memories of Murder also marks the first collaboration between the filmmaker and his favourite actor Song Kang-ho, here playing Detective Park. Faced with an investigation leading nowhere, Park must join forces with a Seoul detective. As they learn to match their drastically different policing methods, the mysterious killer continues to run rampant.
