The video-club evenings are presented by Vidéographe in collaboration with Cinéma Moderne.

The four films gathered in this program approach life and death as experiences that shape one another. They move through memory, humor, trauma, illness and encounters with the natural world, asking how we keep going in the face of loss and uncertainty.

In Is That All There Is?, Chris Mullington borrows Peggy Lee's iconic song, pairing its existential refrain with brightly colored, lo-fi digital drawings of catastrophe to reflect on life's absurdity. Alexandru Petru Badeliță's i made you, i kill you confronts childhood abuse with brutal honesty, while also presenting a moving portrait of artistic exploration as a way of survival. Esther Valiquette's Le récit d'A weaves together autobiographical fragments, memory, and reflection into an evocative meditation on illness and a generation marked by AIDS; driven by a fierce determination to embrace life until the very end. The program concludes with Ella Morton's Crushed Between Ocean and Sky, where an unexpected event aboard a sailing trip to Antarctica becomes an opportunity to contemplate the fragility of life against the immensity of the natural world.

Despite their difficult subjects, these films are remarkably inventive in form. Through vibrant animation, collage, experimental techniques, they transform personal and collective experiences into visually striking works. Together, they acknowledge darkness without being defined by it, suggesting that grief and rupture are inseparable from human experience, but so are resilience, imagination, and - why not ? - beauty.
