Original English version

Comme le dit Darryl McDaniels de Run-DMC: "It's the same expression, but two different presentations ".

Éloi, whose father was killed in a hunting accident a year ago, is called to take part in a strange tribute ceremony in the country. There, immersed in a disturbing world of strange mystical codes, he learns that his father was tracking a huge buck with awe-inspiring antlers alongside the “Indian”. After several outstanding short films, Aurtenèche delivers a first feature that obliquely references the legend of Saint Hubert, who encountered the Almighty while hunting a stag. A cryptic thriller, hidden manuscripts, the quest for self-knowledge, psychotropic drugs: La Contemplation du mystère boldly shifts between moods and genres. Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy

Original Japanese Version, English Subtitles

A love triangle made up of two young women and the man they both covet, an attempted literary seduction that takes an unexpected turn, and a chance meeting due to mistaken identity . . . After Asako I and II (2015), the Japanese director once again tackles the torments of the heart and soul in a tale told in three distinct chapters and heavily inspired by the films of Éric Rohmer. Thoroughly modern, blunt-speaking female characters take the upper hand in these playful, sophisticated tales-within-a-tale. Cut-glass dialogue, misleading appearances, coincidences and misunderstandings delicately expose the dynamics and ambivalence of human relations. (Text written for Festival du nouveau cinéma)

Amy Holden Jones turned down an editing job on E.T. to direct this movie. She made the right choice. Written as a commentary on the inherent sexism of slashers by feminist icon Rita Mae Brown (but shot completely straight), The Slumber Party Massacre is a terrific inside joke that also delivers the goods as a skid row photocopy of Halloween -- complete with a killer who gets figuratively castrated when the tip of his power drill is hacked off. With its stylized photography, plot points that involve pizza, and endlessly cool homemade synth score, The Slumber Party Massacre is a drop-dead masterpiece of subversive trash-horror.
